After first acting as a child at her Grammar School, and being sent to drama lessons by her mother, June Watson went on to attend the ‘Edinburgh College of Speech and Drama’. Aged twenty-one, June Watson left Drama School, and joined a Company called, 'The Fraser Neal Players' earning three pounds per week, making her professional acting debut doing a summer season in Carlisle. June Watson has work extensively in the theatre throughout her career, and in this interview talks about how she loved playing the 'Nurse', in 'Romeo and Juliet'. 'Juno', in 'Juno and The Paycock', and appearing in 'Small Chain', a play by Peter Gill. June Watson also recalls here that she was with 'The English Shakespeare Company', when it was founded, and travelled the world, playing parts like, 'Polina', in 'The Winter's Tale' and ‘Volumnia’ in 'Coriolanus'. At the time of this interview, June Watson was just about to start rehearsing a new play in the West End, called ‘Oedipus’, with the visionary director Robert Icke, alongside Olivier award winners Lesley Manville and Mark Strong. June Watson acknowledges here that she does not consider herself a television star but does state that she is generally remembered for her television work in roles such as ‘Police Sergeant Cameron’ in 'Z Cars', and as ‘Sister Easby’ in 'Angels', the BBC television seasonal drama series about student nurses. Other notable television credits include: Dr. Finlay's Casebook (1966); The Further Adventures of Oliver Twist (1980); Taggart (1986); Snakes and Ladders (1989); The Wars of the Roses (1990–1991); Brotherly Love (1999); The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2001–2002); The Key (2003); William and Mary (2003–2005); Strictly Confidential (2006); The Café (2011–2013); Agatha Raisin (2014–2016); The Cockfields (2019–2021). June Watson has also appeared in a number of films, including The Last Yellow (1999); Highlander: Endgame (2000); 102 Dalmatians (2000); Wreckers (2011); The Lady in the Van (2015); The Death of Stalin (2017); The Bike Thief (2020); Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break (2021); and Your Christmas or Mine?
