Problem/Example Statement: A viscous, incompressible fluid flows between two infinite vertical parallel plates. The fluid flows upstream. Use the Navier-Stokes equations to determine an expression for the pressure gradient in the direction of the flow. The distance between both plates is 2H. Express the answer in terms of the mean velocity. Assume the flow is laminar, steady, and uniform. This problem is solved by using the Y-Component of the Navier Stokes equations in the Cartesian system. The general solution is obtained and after applying boundary conditions, the particular solution is obtain which represents the fluid velocity profile in the Y-direction. In this problem, I use two separate origins and compare the results for the velocity profile, average velocity and pressure gradient and prove that there is no difference in how you choose your coordinate system.
