Skid Grow is a visionary neighborhood redevelopment proposal to transform the 50-block, 60-acre neighborhood of Skid Row, currently the epicenter of the Los Angeles homelessness crisis with 10,000 people sleeping on the streets, into a mixed-income neighborhood housing all 10,000 people currently unhoused in the area, in addition to 40,000 more residents across 26,000 new housing units. The proposed redeveloped neighborhood plan reimagines an area currently improved with one-story warehouses and parking lots into a high density, six-story village, with an interconnected roof-top garden, luxury, middle income, and permanent supportive housing, along with new, much needed gathering spaces and neighborhood amenities. Proposed and presented by Los Angeles-based architect, Adam Sokol, Founder and Principal of ASAP (Adam Sokol Architecture Practice). Presented as part of The Essential Housing Campaign, a community-building campaign, led by The Housing Innovation Collaborative, to build more housing for our essential workers in the communities they serve, in Los Angeles and beyond. 0:00 Hook 0:50 Introduction 1:20 Background 3:00 Neighborhood Overview 5:00 Site Plan 8:00 Rooftop Gardens 11:00 Next Steps
