Distance Approximately 14 km's Day 4 starts with a 4km walk to the base of Haarkappers' mountain fynbos route. The Route is steeped in history, forgive the pun, and is by far the most demanding but rewarding in its own right. As you meander through a 6km walk to the peak and then another 4km to Phillipskop, you'll traverse through and over some of the least walked fynbos routes in all of Western Cape, a hidden gem. On the plateau at the highest point, the vistas are unparalleled, Stanford to the West, Gansbaai/De Kelders to the South, the R326 meandering through the Akkedisberg Pass, Tesselaarsdal below and to the North endless fields of Wheat and Canola to the Riviersonderend mountain range. We then continue down and around Phillipdskop, another imposing rocky outcrop, dwarfing the walkers as we meander through thick fynbos with a few welcome water points. On the decent to Phillipskop, you will find recently discovered (2016) Khoi-San Rock Art in a hidden cave- the cave has now been declared a heritage site as these are the only known Rock Art on the Cape Whale Coast. Accommodation will be at Phillipskop where you will enjoy a much-needed relaxing afternoon and evening.
