Thank you for joining me today. In this video, I am excited to share my systematic hypothesis on the adaptive strategies of Hericium erinaceus (Lion's Mane) mycelium grown in high CO2 grow environment. Our goal is to investigate whether prolonged exposure to elevated CO2 levels throughout the row cycle can enhance the resilience and phenotypical adaptability of Lion's Mane mycelium, potentially leading to the development of a strain that thrives under these conditions. Initially, I conducted an experiment by fruiting in both high CO2 and low CO2 environments to determine the optimal conditions for growth at polar ends of the growth spectrum searching for the morphology that performed the best for this experiment. After several harvests and culinary trials, I found that the high CO2 environment produced a denser and more desirable morphology that suited my extraction and cooking requirements the best. Today, we'll be fruiting a Lion's Mane block that has an interesting lineage. This mycelium is the 3rd clone of the original culture, specifically the 3rd filial generation (F3) of that clone. This means I fruited the (C3) clone, collected spores, and grew them again in a high CO2 environment. I repeated this process, selecting spores from each generation and exposing them to high CO2 conditions throughout the growth cycle. Now, we are fruiting this latest generation (C3-F3) to observe its adaptive traits and performance. Join me as we delve into the fascinating world of mycology, observe the fruiting process of this evolved Lion's Mane culture, and uncover the secrets behind its adaptive strategies. Let's see how this incredible fungus responds to its environment and what insights we can gain for improved cultivation methods.
