Elvis’ 30 October 1960 recording session at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville became one of the most well known of his career. Now commonly known as “The His Hand In Mine” sessions, the single days recordings yielded a mammoth fourteen tracks of which only one was a secular recording, “Surrender”. With the exception of “Crying In The Chapel” which would be released as a single, as would “Surrender”, the remaining twelve tracks would constitute the contents of Elvis’ first gospel album, “His Hand In Mine”. The final track to be recorded that day was the wonderfully upbeat “Working On The Building”. It is a song that was reminiscent of the type of song that Elvis would have heard and sung in church in his youth and is purpose made for the end of the session. It is the type of song that you can get real enjoyment singing and any session fatigue would be momentarily forgotten. Elvis achieved the master in just five takes but with a run time of just under two minutes it really leaves the listener wanting more. The song is also a perfect example of how well Elvis and the Jordanaires worked together particularly in the second half. As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
