A documentary video, “Keitaro Sato and History of Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum,” has been created about the history of Museum’s origin. The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, which opened in 1926 as Japan’s first public art museum, was founded on the basis of a donation by the Kyushu industrialist Keitaro Sato, known as the “King of Coal.” Now, a documentary video has been created to introduce to viewers the original intent of Keitaro Sato—“the father of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum”—and history of the museum carrying on his intentions. We invite you to learn the history of the museum that supported the history of modern Japanese art. A more detailed 20-minute version of the documentary video can be seen in the Sato Keitaro Memorial Lounge on the Central Wing 1F of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Please watch it when you next visit the museum. https://www.tobikan.jp/en/guide/artlo...
