Alex is a young man who came to our rehabilitation center after deciding that he needed a change in his life. He had been struggling to control his use of prescription medication, and things had gotten progressively worse. After breaking his family’s trust by stealing things that were of sentimental value, he decided that it was time to seek help. “I was at a very dark point in my life, where I even contemplated suicide,” he confesses. “The moment I decided to get treatment, I instantly became a hundred pounds lighter. It exceeded my expectations. I can definitely say that I changed from the moment I came in here.” Many people who have been through the recovery process will say that the first step of admitting that there is a problem and that help is needed is the hardest one to take. Alex is proof of that, as his relief at finally having decided to seek treatment gave him an optimism for the future that he had not felt in a long time. His program, along with the caring and compassionate staff and the personal connections he made with the other patients during his stay at our recovery facility, have helped him to make the lifestyle transformation that is necessary to remain substance-free, facing life head-on without resorting to substance abuse. “I knew that my addiction and drugs were my problem, but I knew that they weren’t my main problem,” he shares. “I knew that the main problem was with myself and how I dealt with hardship and disappointment.
