Democrat Baldwin, Republican Wied appear together to tout money for new Green Bay fire station

In our politically divided times, bipartisan agreements seem like a rarity. But Friday morning in Green Bay, two members of Congress from opposite sides of the aisle appeared together to highlight $5 million in federal funding going toward Green Bay's new fire station and administration headquarters. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin, and Rep. Tony Wied, R-8th District, held a news conference at one of the current fire stations. The city plans to combine operations from the closed Station 1 and outdated Station 3, as well house administrative offices there. However, in December, city officials said project costs had grown to $19 million, about $4 million than anticipated. As a result, the city was considering reducing the size the project. Now, it appears that won't be necessary. A new federal spending agreement passed earlier this month includes $5 million for the project. City officials are working to finalize project plans and funding arrangements with a goal of breaking ground this summer.
