Nabha Mata Temple: A Sacred Shakti Peeth Nestled in Jammu’s Hills Nabha Mata Temple is located in the scenic hills of Jindrah, approximately 50 kilometers from Jammu, and is revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. According to legend, when Sati—the first consort of Lord Shiva, who was later reborn as Parvati—sacrificed herself during Daksha's yajna, Shiva was overcome with grief and fury and performed the Rudra Tandava. To calm him, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember Sati’s body into 108 parts, which fell across the Indian subcontinent. Of these sacred sites, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have identified 18 as Maha Shakti Peethas. Nabha Devi Temple, situated in Kanyala village near Jindrah (around 45 km from Jammu), marks the spot where the stomach and navel of Sati are said to have fallen. The deity here is worshipped as Nabha Devi or Nabha Mata—named after the “Nabhi” (navel) of Sati. Local belief holds that no devotee returns empty-handed, as their prayers are fulfilled at this powerful shrine. Interestingly, Nabha Mata Temple is located approximately 41.5 km from the renowned Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, creating a spiritual link between these two sacred destinations.
