For years, Costa Mesa 1986 existed with a decent-sounding tape that covered the majority of the set up until Candle In The Wind with the first minute of it existing. That was until a few months ago when the excellent Jim Rinehart, fresh from releasing 10/8/1986, posted his own and improved copy of this show    • Elton John - 10-4-1986 - Costa Mesa, CA (L...   with the entire thing covered (click on Jim's copy for the reason why 10/8 ended up being taped!) On the US/Australia 1986 Tiermaker, we were very complimentary towards the music, with it being some of the finest this band would produce, and Elton's vocals not being as harsh/horrible as other gigs, especially with Jim's copy helping to mostly cement those opinions further. The old copy of Bennie And The Jets was spoke of extremely highly and the fresher recording places Elton's piano strongly in the mix. The vocals aren't as rough as you'd get a week later, the band produce one of their strongest efforts, Fred Mandel has plenty of fun on the keyboard during the breakdown before Elton's call and response, and the solo is exquisite!
