After working in consulting in the UAE, she realized the data she was using wasn’t as rich or meaningful as she wanted — so she decided to do something about it. Her path led her to a PhD in Spatial Data Science, exploring how satellite data can fill critical information gaps. When tragedy struck Lebanon, Melda used her skills to co-found OpenMap Lebanon, helping communities access real-time data during disasters. Later, she joined Uber, where she found a new balance between stability and passion, eventually moving into Responsible AI.
