Belfast Waterworks Park Walk Round Cavehill Road Belfast

It's a sunny but chilly, Tuesday 7th Nov 2023 morning, and I'm up at the historic Belfast Waterworks park found between the Cavehill road and the Antrim roads. This is my walk round video of the lower ( Swan Lake ), pond and the larger upper pond. Belfast Waterworks park was originally built in the 1840s to supply water to a growing Belfast and it's mills. In the early decades of the 1900s it was decided that Belfast had outgrown this water supply. The ponds were then given over to the public as a park area. During WW2 the ponds were bombed by the German Luffwaffe. Thankfully they survived! Today they have become a popular place for boaters, walkers, dog walkers, park runners, joggers, pram walkers and families. Many folk come to the Waterworks everyday. It has become their daily therapy. During the lockdown many would say that the Waterworks was their life saver. This hidden gem is also a haven for wildlife, particularly ducks and geese migrating in winter from colder climates. Otters, foxes, kingfishers and even green parakeets have all been spotted withing the park! Come and check it out for yourselves!
