Off-grid in North Pennines: Alston Moor and River Tees from Blackburn Bank

The longest straight line in England between two roads is in the North Pennines: near Leadgate (north) and North Stainmore (south) and is about 18.5 miles. On this wild (cold, even though it was June!) and almost completely off-grid hike, I did about 9 miles on that line and then looped back to my starting point at Blackburn Bank (near Leadgate): a fantastically wild, windswept, moorland walk, with truly incredible views of River Tees and superb dramatic Cross Gill spot as it winds its way down towards Garrigill.
