Climbing Cross Fell: The Highest English Mountain Outside The Lake District

Subscribe Here:    / @wanderingcloud78   Beginning in the picturesque village of Milburn on the western border of North Pennines, I made my way up to the disused Silverband Mine - from here, I made it off-grid steeply up-and-down past two streams and ravines/gullies, waterfalls, and incredible beauty: very hard stretch including some more serious scrambling, with near constant panorama of the Lake District to the west. Following reaching the summit of Cross Fell, it was an easy walk to first Little Dun Fell and then Great Dun Fell, both on the comfortable Pennine Way. Now, off-grid again to Hard Hill in the middle of moorland, before returning to the Pennine Way along Trout Beck. Now, I followed the Pennine Way again towards (but not to) Dufton for a few miles via Knock Hill, enjoying incredible views (again) of the Lakes District mountains on the horizon and the picturesque meadows and pastures below. Dufton Pike, the last summit of the day, was the highlight: the short but very steep ascent rewarded me with one of the most incredible 360-degrees panorama miles and miles ahead: from here, you will see the Pennines, of course, but also the Lake District Mountains, Yorkshire Dales, much of Cumbria, Dufton Fell, Cross Fell, Dun Fells and to the north rise the Scottish Uplands! A poet's and artist's dream!
