In the wild and mountainous interior of Papua New Guinea, a young man named Andrew felt a calling that would transform the course of his life. Raised in a Christian home, Andrew grew up hearing about God’s love. Yet his faith took on a deeper meaning when Pastor Tom Carawah visited his small rural village. Through powerful messages about the return of Jesus and the importance of the Sabbath, the pastor sparked a new curiosity in Andrew’s heart. Eager to learn more, Andrew attended every meeting, determined to understand the Bible and the God who invites ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. Before long, Andrew became deeply involved in the local Adventist community. Over the next two years, he devoted himself to studying Scripture with growing enthusiasm. His faith was no longer just about belief—it became a burning desire to serve, preach, and guide others toward Christ. Recognizing his dedication and potential, the district director of the Adventist churches offered Andrew an opportunity to receive layperson training. If he accepted, he would serve as a volunteer pastor in one of the country’s remote regions. Without hesitation, Andrew agreed, stepping into a life filled with both trials and incredible blessings. His missionary journey soon led him deep into the jungle. Reaching some villages required three days of walking through dense forests, crossing rivers, and sleeping outdoors along the way. Despite the exhausting journeys, Andrew pressed forward with a single purpose: sharing the message of Jesus. The obstacles he faced were not only physical. “There were times I spent days with villagers, praying and teaching,” Andrew explained. “Some accepted the message, while others rejected it. I learned to keep moving forward without losing hope.” Opposition sometimes came from within the communities themselves. In certain places, people were suspicious of Adventists, and Andrew occasionally encountered cold attitudes and harsh words. Yet he remained steadfast, encouraged by the transformation he witnessed—people finding healing, hearts opening, and truth taking root in unexpected places. Life as a jungle missionary could also be deeply challenging. There were moments when Andrew and his wife had no food, no money, and no support. During one particularly difficult week, they went without eating at all. Sitting in their simple missionary home in the jungle, they turned to the only strength they had left: worship. Together they began to sing. #MissionStory #FaithJourney #CalledToServe #MissionaryLife #PapuaNewGuinea #SpreadTheGospel #GodsCalling #ChristianMission #FaithInAction #SharingJesus #BibleMission #Evangelism #TrustInGod #GodProvides #ServeTheLord #KingdomWork #ChristianFaith #HopeInChrist #MissionField #AnswerTheCall #mission story #adventist #papaa new guinea #story
