Your 11 p.m. Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio Weather Impact forecast from Jan. 29, 2026: This stretch of cold has been incredible and it's starting to take its toll on infrastructure, car batteries and all of us in general. By Saturday, we will have eight straight days where our high temps have been at 17 degrees or below — a long stretch! Going back in the record books, this will tie the record for the longest such stretch. The other time this happened? Way back in 1899! So this is rare longevity to the bitterly cold air. What you probably don't want to hear — the coldest air is yet to come! A strong arctic high pressure will surge south across the eastern U.S., bringing another surge in polar air with it. The good news is that our winds won't be very strong, so wind-chill values won't be as brutal as they were on Tuesday. But we will be pushing record lows Friday morning with lows below zero and then again Saturday morning. Lake-effect snow developed overnight and will continue to flare up and fade over the next few days as various wind shifts occur. We should see the lake snow diminish later today before potentially flaring back up on Saturday as we get some help from Lake Huron to our north. Yes, the lake is mainly frozen, but we can still get lake snow with help from other lakes and pockets of open water over Lake Erie itself. We'll watch from afar as a huge east coast low spins up this weekend, bringing the potential for heavy snow and strong winds to the Carolinas and to coastal New England. Our temps will begin to moderate next week as we push into the 20s — still well below average, but we'll be able to at least feel the difference.
