How can research on neuroscience, cognitive development, and psychology be used to advance literacy? The science of reading (https://www.thereadingleague.org/what...) is a vast, interdisciplinary body of scientifically based research (https://www.researchgate.net/publicat...) related to reading and writing. Researchers have used this body of work to better understand the keys to success in reading and writing, why some students struggle, and some significant teaching interventions that lead to improvement. During this Global Reading Network (GRN) event, participants heard from a well-renowned researcher in the science of reading field, Young-Suk Grace Kim. Following her presentation, attendees had the chance to talk about the topic in breakout rooms. Networking topics will include what the latest research says about how the brain learns how to read, how to implement structured pedagogy, and challenges literacy specialists face.
