Nostalgia: A Matter of Perspective | Jon Reimer | TEDxSeisen International School

Dr. Jon Reimer is the Drama Teacher at Seisen International School in Tokyo, Japan. His doctoral research looked at nostalgia and how certain visual and performing arts are designed in such a way as to trigger our sense of nostalgia. Nostalgia is our interaction with memories of past events along with how those memories make us feel in the present moment. Dr. Reimer’s talk will be a series of thought exercises and examples from film and his own life that will not only demonstrate what nostalgia is but also how it plays a powerful and important role in our everyday lives, influencing the decisions we make and how we see ourselves, and how recognizing our nostalgia is the first step in being able to use to our advantage. Dr. Jon Reimer is a drama teacher at Seisen whose doctoral thesis examined how visual arts trigger nostalgia. Today, he will be leading the audience through thought exercises and personal anecdotes that will exemplify his research by demonstrating the powerful and critical role of nostalgia in our daily lives.
