Session #1 of the SCVI Beginner guide looks at blocking. SCVI is a 3D fighter so there's a block button. You can't hold back to block (you'll just walk backwards instead), though you can set 2 block buttons if you so desire. The block button can be used to reduce the recovery of sidesteps in the form of Step Guard: a defensive technique that combines a small sidestep with a block. In general, you'll block when you're negative or at disadvantage, whereas of course you can press the attack when at advantage. The block button also complements SCVI's jumping mechanics, I.e You can jump on reaction while guarding, straight into another guard (though using jumping attacks to beat anticipated lows is a bit more optimal). Protect your Guard Gauge while wearing down your opponents! Yes, you can get punished for blocking "too much" in SCVI. You have to be proactive with how you go about defense, and can't just stand there and block all day. This was a major technique in SCV, when GI's cost some meter. In SCVI, JG's preserve your guard gauge, resist chip damage, and restore a little meter. However, it is generally safer to utilize the large windows of GI's in SCVI instead. For Directional Notation 7 8 9 4 5 6 1 2 3 Each number represents the corresponding direction. 1 for "Down-Back", 9 for "Up-Forward", 5 for "Neutral" or no input, etc. Quarter-Circle Back = 214, Quarter-Circle Forward = 236, Half-Circle Back = 63214, Half-Circle Forward = 41236, etc. For Input commands: A = Horizontal Attack B = Vertical Attack K = Kick G = Guard Button 6G = Guard Impact A+G = First Throw 4A+G = Second Throw 6B+G = Resist Impact B+G = Reversal Edge A+B+K = Critical Edge 236A+B+K = Soul Attack Legend: W! = Wall Splat W!! = Second Wall Splat GB! = Guard Burst CE = Critical Edge ( ) = Held Input : = Just Frame Input Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE & RATE for more SC goodness! ;-) #SCVI #SCVIGuide #HowToPlaySCVI
