The concert billing seemed to generally be along the lines of how these shows are presented. Santana first (a relatively new Chinmoy devotee, not yet with his Devadip name), followed by Mahavishnu John McLaughlin (as much of the world knew him at that point). The tour came just a couple of weeks after the official live album from the original Mahavishnu Orchestra (Between Nothingness and Eternity) had been recorded in Central Park, NYC. There's also a boot circulating of a Santana show in the Carolinas from August 16th of this same year, so these guys were pretty busy in those days. Each of them had presumably just taken part in annual celebrations held during late August in Jamaica, Queens N.Y. to mark the birthday of their guru from those days, Sri Chinmoy. This short tour included supporting players who were connected with each of the principals. Doug Rauch and Armando Peraza were with Santana, and, of course, Billy Cobham was the 2nd most prominent member of the MO after John himself. Larry Young (a.k.a. Khalid Yasin) had worked with John in the Tony Williams Lifetime. There are recordings from many of the shows on this short tour. Some are really nice quality soundboards (Chicago) and FMs (Berkeley). Others, like this one, are audience recordings, and their quality varies. To my ear, this is a good one, but let the samples below be your guide." Thanks to jdbrewer26, kinebee & jswetch! Footage and production by bigfootpegrande.
