The Outask Light: https://ok4wd.com/outask/ This week, our European overlanding journey takes us deep into the Albera Mountains of Catalonia, Spain, for one of our most challenging off-road drives and emotionally resonant hikes yet. We begin by chasing an old trail to the haunting site of a 1986 DC-6 water bomber crash, a forgotten piece of local history. What starts as a scenic 11 km hike near the quiet village of Cantallops becomes a challenging trek guided by trail markers, strong winds, and breathtaking views of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. After summiting the ridge and exploring the remains of the aircraft, we reflect on the brave firefighters who lost their lives there. But the danger wasn't over. The next day, we find ourselves on a rugged, cliff-side castle road that quickly becomes far too narrow and exposed for a truck our size. We are forced into a careful, nerve-wracking descent, tackling one of the steepest mountain shelf roads we've ever attempted with inches to spare. Amid the excitement of the adventure, we take time to prepare for Christmas, reflect on family news, process deep losses, and soak in the raw beauty of Spain as we continue our adventure.
