East Wind to Australia

Following the refit of East Wind in The Philippines, we voyaged to Australia via the Solomon Sea off the East Coast of New Guinea. The voyage took 5 weeks and mostly was in calm conditions. The Solomon Sea which connects the Bismarck Sea with the Coral Sea was the most difficult being due south into southerly swell of 4 to 5 metres, 7 seconds apart which slowed us down dramatically. After 5 days we emerged into the Coral Sea and quite a pleasant sail to the Great Barrier Reef before passing through the Palm Passage to Magnetic island and Townsville. We imported the vessel into Australia here, paying GST and import duty before proceeding to Hope harbour on the Gold Coast where we will be based for the next year. All in all it was quite an adventure after retiring from business and was my first ocean voyage. I was captain and navigator and my crew was a professional sailor from the Philippines know as Kimpee. Without his help in recommissioning the vessel in Vietnam and the subsequent voyages we would not have achieved the successful outcome that we are now enjoying.
