Join me in this step-by-step tutorial where I'll take you through the process of creating a custom woodcut print for T-shirts. From carving the block to the final print, I'll cover all the steps you need to make your own wearable art. Plus, I'll share a story about the unexpected turn this project took. Start: 00:00 Design: 00:40 First, I'll show you how I designed the print on my computer. It's a design that printmakers will instantly recognize – it's all about the ingredients for making a copper etching. Carving: 00:50 Carving is up next, and I'll introduce you to the tools I use, including my Japanese woodblock carving tools and Dockyard micro-tools for those tiny details. If you're on the hunt for quality carving tools, I'll point you to a supplier that I trust. Prep: 01:27 Once the block is carved, I'll show you how I prepare it for printing, I'll also share my choice of Speedball fabric ink, which has proven to last on shirts I printed years ago. Platen: 02:02 You'll see my DIY setup for block printing on shirts, which helps me align everything perfectly. Print: 02:27 After getting the shirt positioned and the block inked, I'll demonstrate how to get the right pressure and run it through the press. A Problem: 3:20 Lastly, I'll tell you about the unfortunate fate of the shirts from this project and why they spent eight months on a shelf. You'll hear about the lessons I learned and how the ink outlasted unexpected challenges. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please drop a comment below, and if you found this video helpful, consider subscribing to support the channel. I appreciate it! Check out the video and let me know if you think I should give these shirts another shot.
