As a 2024 Olympic alternate and a rising star known for her artistry (especially on floor), she entered the event coming off a strong season start, including contributing to Team USA's gold at the Pan American Championships earlier in 2025. She skipped the U.S. Classic to recover from a minor ankle injury but aimed to contend for medals and a spot on the World Championships team later that year. Sumanasekera, who will join UCLA in 2026, competed all four events on Day 1 (August 8), delivering a solid but imperfect performance that placed her 9th in the all-around after the first day. Day 1 featured the all-around qualification, where gymnasts performed on all apparatuses. Sumanasekera's routines showed her strengths in execution and difficulty but included some deductions from minor errors, like falls and connection issues.
