Integrators Own the OS

Today, I'm talking to you Integrators. I'd like to start off by quoting a passage from the fifth point on the Integrator Job Description, right out of Rocket Fuel: "The Integrator ensures that everyone is truly following and adhering to the company's core processes and operating system with consistency." The key point here is that the Integrator owns the operating system for the company. What is an operating system? An operating system is essentially how you run your business. It's everything from vision to processes to language. It's how you talk together, work together, and run your business. You need to have a single operating system. You can't pick four or five different operating systems and piece together what you like from each one. A term may mean something in one system and something completely different in another - people will get confused. So, pick one operating system and commit to mastering it. There are a number of good ones out there. Maybe I’m a little biased but I obviously think EOS® is a great operating system. Just know that going in. As the owner of the operating system, Integrators must drive it through the organization. As Integrators begin to master it and get comfortable with that system, they need to teach it to the next level of the organization and ensure that message cascades throughout the entire organization. In EOS®, we often reference a shared by all mentality (SBA). We want everyone in the organization to share the view of the operating system and vision that it embraces. Equally as important important is the phrase followed by all (FBA), meaning people truly adhere to it. They execute and operate in alignment with the operating system that is in place. When you think about driving an operating system through the whole organization just know that it takes time, it takes work, it takes energy. It's simple. It lays out the “what,” the “why,” and the “how.” It's easy for an employee to digest and begin to see how they fit into this bigger picture of how you want the operating system to work in your company. My passionate plea to you is to go get this book and have your folks read it. It's going to make your job much easier, and ultimately make your organization more effective and begin to drive your company forward. Three key things to wrap this one up today: 1. The Integrator owns the operating system. 2. Owning means cascading which means shared by all (SBA) and followed by all (FBA). 3.
