Apple IIc with external Laser FD 100 floppy disk drive (DB19 connector) PR#7 boots external 5.25" drive (even though drive maps to slot 6, drive 2) This only works with original ROM version //c and ProDOS disks ! //c ROM version check 00:20 Floppy drive head cleaning demo 00:40 Booting Zip Chip control panel from external drive 03:08 Laser disk drive official speed testing utility 05:17 Format/verify floppy disk with Copy II Plus 06:46 Booting Zardax II from external drive 08:30 Shogun won't boot from external drive 10:12 Booting Beagle Graphics from external drive 10:40 Booting Apple Writer II from external drive 12:10 Configuring Zip Chip for 50% speed (2MHz) 13:45 Playing Saracen with Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro joystick @2MHz 14:55 = Additional Notes = Apple Writer II and Zardax II are coming up in 40 column mode as the //c's 80/40 switch is set to 40. (They are among the handful of programs to respect this switch - Apple Access II being another) Unsure which ROM version //c you have? Check out this post:- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!ori... For later ROM revision //c, you can still boot the second 5.25" drive, it's just a little harder: "CALL 151" -return "CTRL-E" return You will see something like "M=xx A=56 etc" Now type: ":xx E0 60 1 N C60BG" return External drive should now boot. This tip comes courtesy of AUSOM News (Nov 1989). NB: Later ROM version IIc adds support for UniDisk 3.5 which boots automatically if the internal 5.25" drive is empty or one can use PR#5 (3.5" drive maps to slot 5, drive 1). The Apple IIc Plus will auto boot an external 5.25" drive if the internal 3.5" is found empty else use PR#6 (5.25" drive maps to slot 6, drive 1 so any type of disk, not just ProDOS, will work). At the time this video was made, the Zip Chip in the //c was thought to be the 8MHz model but was later discovered to be the 4MHz one. Hence the Saracen demonstration at 50% speed is @ 2MHz (not 4MHz as stated in the caption).
