TRANSCRIPT Good morning! Happy Monday! Many of my students struggle with fluency in English because they translate everything they want to say from their mother tongue to English. At the beginning of your language journey, it is the only way, but as you progress in your learning, it is imperative that you stop translating in your head and instead train yourself to think in English. Here are some simple strategies to help you think in English: 1. Surround yourself with English: Listen to English music, watch English movies or TV shows, and read English books or news. 2. Label things around you in English: You can write post-it notes with English words for your everyday items, such as your phone, computer, or kitchen items, to help you associate the language with your surroundings. 3. Use English every day: It is very important that you have contact with English every day. Try to speak, write, or listen to English every day to improve your language skills. 4. Learn English phrases and expressions: Learning commonly used English phrases and expressions can help you understand the language better and think in English more easily, this way you are not thinking in words, but in whole phrases, which streamlines your fluency considerably. Another thing you can do is to set time to think in English. Set up the alarm on your phone for 5 minutes and during that time try to think only in English, about your surroundings, your plans, and your emotions. If a phrase in your mother tongue comes to your mind, gently put it aside and think of the same phrase but in English. If you practice this every day, you will see a great improvement in your fluency. That’s all for today. All the best to the fluent you! Have a marvellous day!
