I had not given up yet. But when I sat down across from him that Sunday morning- heart heavy, head in my dad's he told me there was nothing left to discuss except how to divide things up for the divorce. And then I before I could even process those words He handed me a spreadsheet of every penny he had ever spent on me or the house. He had been keeping track for years.
