Every October, for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we celebrate the people whose efforts help to enrich the lives of those living with disabilities. In this Heritage and Awareness Month series, we’re proud to present “Accessible by Design: Innovation Meets Inclusion” featuring Christy Atkinson, CEO of Workshops Empowerment Inc. (WE), a historic Alabama-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities or other employment barriers by providing meaningful job opportunities, training and support. Atkinson holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Samford University, as well as multiple master’s degrees in counseling and education. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Workforce Development Professional, and holds certifications in Vocational Evaluation Forensics, Nonprofit Executive Leadership, and Digital Marketing for Nonprofits.
