Agarose gel electrophoresis uses an electrical current to separate nucleic acid molecules based on their charge and mass. It can be used in genetic fingerprinting, Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR), and other recombinant DNA technologies like gene cloning, to separate and analyse DNA fragments of different sizes. This animation demonstrates the process of agarose gel electrophoresis, showing how the gel is made, how samples are loaded and visualised, and how it separates DNA fragments by size.
