Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company has lost over 32-Thousand United States dollars due to vandalism on its infrastructure on the Kafulafuta Water Dam project. This is as a result of stalled works on the project which has exposed the water infrastructure to the vandals. Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company Director Engineering BERNARD PHIRI says scrap metal dealers are taking advantage of the vulnerable infrastructure. Mr. PHIRI says the vandalism on its water infrastructure has greatly affected operations for the water utility. Meanwhile, a Local Contractor LAZARUS MANKUSHA has appealed to government to source for funds that will ensure completion of the project. Mr. MANKUSHA says due to delays to complete the project, scrap metal dealers have vandalized water and air valves costing around 15- Thousand United States Dollars. Another Contractor FREDDIE MKANDAWIRE says over 5-hundred people have been kept out of employment due to stalled works. Over 126 Million United States Dollars is needed to complete works at the Kafulafuta Water Dam which is aimed at increasing water supply to Masaiti, Luanshya, Ndola and Mpongwe.
