In this video, we show you how to make a delicious Swahili Style Katlesi Recipe Katles (also known as Cutlus) is a Potato cutlet that is filled with a mince meat filling. In this Katlesi Recipe, we have filled the Cutlet with chicken mince but you can use lamb mince too. These Potato Katlesi (Aloo Cutlets) are then dipped in an egg mixture and fried. These Katlesi (also known as potato chops) are very popular in East African countries such as Tanzania and Kenya. Mum has been making these for as long as I remember and they're really popular in our house, especially during Ramadan. To make these Swahili Style Katlesi Recipe, you will need: 1/2 kg mince (we used chicken mince but you can also use lamb or beef if you prefer) 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder 1/2 tsp garam masala 1 & 1/2 tsp coriander powder salt to taste 1/4 tsp black pepper 1 tsp grated ginger 4 to 5 green chilies (or to taste) juice of half a lemon fresh coriander 1 medium-sized onion finely chopped 2 tbs fresh mint leaves do not add any water or oil to the keema (mince) mixture For the Katlesi Potato (aloo) part, you will need: 7 medium-sized potatoes boiled and mashed fresh coriander salt to taste 1/2 tsp black pepper For the Katlesi egg mixture: 2 eggs salt and black pepper to taste Dip the Katlesi (katles or cutlus) into the egg mixture then deep fry until golden. We often serve these Aloo Keema (potato and mince) cutlets with ketchup and green chutney. These Katlesi are ever so popular in our household and they were even a hit when we used to have our restaurant too!
