Excel Tutorial: How To Remove #N/A From Spreadsheet With Excel VLOOKUP Results Setting up an Excel template with VLOOKUP formulas is a very efficient way to work if you need to update that template on some regular basis. I update my files with company sales data on weekly basis. Not having to format data to look presentable every time I run my reports saves me days of work. Every now and then there is a situation when data is not available yet, but a place holder for it already exist in your template. Understandably, you want your template look nice and clean. But what if instead of blank cells formula results display as #N/A? Can you imagine a whole row of that? I am going to show you how you can modify a basic VLOOKUP formula so your template looks nice and clean, and when you data is available (let's say a new store starts generating sales, like in my example), it will be displayed properly. Until then -- your report will show blank cells instead of #N/A. Here is the solution. You need to add IF(ISERROR) statement to the formula. Let's say your VLOOKUP formula looks like this: =vlookup($B15,Data!'$B$11:$O$350,3,FALSE) When you add IF(ISERROR) to the formula above, it will look like this: =if(iserror(vlookup($B15,Data!'$B$11:$O$350,3,FALSE)),"",($B15,Data!'$B$11:$O$350,3,FALSE))) Essentially, you tell Excel that if VLOOKUP results in error (#N/A), then it should display nothing ("") -- quotation marks without anything between them; if VLOOKUP returns a value, Excel should display that value. Of course, IF(ISERROR) statement can be used with any formula that returns error message instead of values. This is one of my favorite features in Excel.
