In Central Asia and Türkiye, addressing the legacy of obsolete Soviet-era pesticides is an urgent priority. This video highlights the FAO and GEF project "Lifecycle Management of Pesticides," showcasing a regional effort to safeguard health, restore land, and build sustainable agriculture. Across Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Türkiye, the project has embedded Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In Türkiye, smart tools like pheromone traps reduced pesticide use by 70% while protecting crops. Kazakh farmers saw pesticide use drop by 80% without sacrificing yields. The initiative has also strengthened national capacities by training hundreds of extension officers and university students, and developing technical guidelines for key crops. By fostering partnerships between research institutes and governments, this project proves that a cleaner, healthier agricultural future is achievable through shared commitment and innovation.
