When patients lose the ability to communicate effectively, doctors and other clinicians often refer them to a speech language pathologist (SLP) to help them regain their speaking skills. But for patients with the FTD disorder known as primary progressive aphasia (PPA), lost speaking abilities do not return, and communication only gets worse as the brain degenerates. Yet speech language therapy can still help. Using individualized interventions and approaches, SLPs can maximize communication abilities that remain in persons diagnosed with PPA, allowing them to maintain connections with loved ones and improve their quality of life. This webinar features a lively and insightful conversation with three expert SLPs experienced in working with those with FTD. Learners will be able to: Describe the value of SLP assessment and intervention in PPA. List two specific goals of SLP interventions with those living with PPA. Recognize two unique needs of non-English speakers living with PPA.
