Finally, after searching this area on several previous visits, we find a structure I once found in the dark, and could not see what it was, other than a wall & basement. This area is very strange and we previously found a revolutionary war era canon pedestal, a large, possible ancient burial mound, a cobblestone wall, and found what looked like a Sasquatch or Dogman watching behind a tree on the footage. Needless to say this area is very interesting, and needed another visit. This wall is the remains of what used to be an underground structure. The stonework matches a nearby hotel, built in the 20’s, and was the largest alcohol bootlegging basement on the East End of Long Island during prohibition, and supplied many of NYC's underground speakeasies. This structure may have been a secret alcohol depot for that nearby hotel. The Army took over the hotel in question, and they definitely built 3 structures in this very spot. They most likely used the pre-existing basement to build onto. If any Montauk local old timers have any information on this site, we would love to hear anything you wish to share.
