Please read before commenting! A few close-up shots of a Benq 32x10x40 CDRW drive, seeing what the laser does and that sort of thing. No explosions and such if that is what you were hoping for. Little Q&A: Q: Is the drive broken? A: Most of the drive is still fine, but the controller chip (the chip that controls the laser and motors) is damaged. It works, but as soon as the chip gets warm the drive 'crashes' (doesn't respond anymore) untill it cools down a little. But it still reads discs. Q: BOOOOOORING A: I know, some people might find it boring to watch a CD drive doing it's thing, but there are also people who might like it. Q: What does the 32x10x40 stuff stand for anyway? A: 32x is write speed, 10x is the speed for re-writable discs, 40 is the read speed for CD-rom discs. Q: Can it read/burn DVD's? A: No. Q: Z0MG! It's dangerous to have a cd drive open without it's cover because of the laser! A: The laser is pretty much only dangerous if you look directly into the lens, otherwise an open cd drive isn't realy dangerous* (*if you keep the safety's in place and the disc doesn't shatter :P ) Q: You should take the safety off and spin up a disc and see what happens! A: Might be cool, but a CD flying around at high speed is a bit dangerous so I won't do that......yet :P
