Cabinet Approves ₹3,342 Cr Ballari–Chikjajur Rail Project to Boost Connectivity

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the 185 km Ballari–Chikjajur doubling project, costing ₹3,342 crore, will significantly enhance connectivity between the hinterland and Mangalore port. Spanning Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the complex project includes 29 major bridges and will benefit approximately 13 lakh people. It is expected to handle an additional 19 million tons of cargo, helping to reduce 101 crore kg of carbon dioxide emissions—equivalent to planting 4 crore trees—and saving 20 crore litres of diesel annually.
