The slide hammer finally arrived so it was time to tackle the nearside rear hub again. I had no joy with it and realized that the driveshaft had to come out before I could remove the hub. Despite resorting to an air hammer, I finally admitted defeat and moved on to the offside. The driveshaft on that side came out without any resistance and I was able to change the bearing. I will have to seek outside help to get the nearside driveshaft off if I'm going to change the wheel bearing. I'll farm that job out to the local garage.
