Melancholy Blues was recorded by Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven in 1927. Strictly speaking it is not a blues. However, the original recording was such a superb example of classic jazz that Armstrongs' Melancholy Blues is included on the Voyager Golden Record, attached to the Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977 - will it ever be heard and appreciated by an alien society beyond our solar system? Maybe. Time will tell. The present recording of Melancholy Blues features the S F Feetwarmers with two cornets and guest star Roy Rubinstein (from Chicago) on trombone. The minor verse provides the melancholy while the main theme in the related major key is sprinkled with blue notes. San Francisco Feetwarmers have no ambitions to entertain aliens, although that term has been applied to some of their fans in the Bay Area. During the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, the Feetwarmers are pleased to share their recordings via YouTube in the hope that they will bring some happiness and solace in difficult times - enjoy and stay safe until we can play for you live again. That will be soooo good. San Francisco Feetwarmers ... that's an unusual name. Not when you recall the great Sidney Bechet's New Orleans Feetwarmers, Johnny Dodds' Chicago Footwarmers and Duke Ellington's Harlem Feetwarmers. It is the perfect name for a Bay Area band known for playing classic jazz with a touch of class. San Francisco Feetwarmers www.sffeetwarmers.com
