Chasing UP 4014 Big Boy on July 11th (down the FRC & Sacramento Sub) & July 14th (Over Donner pass)

In this video we will follow the UP 4014 "Big Boy" Steam Locomotive on its westward excursion trip to Roseville, CA from Cheyenne, WY & Back. This chase is split across two days. On the first day (July 11th) we follow the train from the Rock Creek Trestle in the Feather River Canyon all the way as far as Pleasant Grove, CA where we will see the south end of a siding still standing with "Searchlight" type signals that still stand there today. Then on July 14th we follow the train from Newcastle, CA, to Truckee, CA. however, 4014 struck a tree in Auburn along the way, and the cylinders got damaged. Fortunately, UP repaired the cylinders at one site and the train continued from about 2 1/2 to about 3 hours late. After that the chase continued on and we followed it to Truckee from Gold Run, CA. At Truckee, the train stopped just east of downtown to make a crew change. After that, the train continued over to Sparks to stay overnight.
