The fifth split of Radical Red is where this run starts to get interesting. We have a lot of major trainers and upgrades at this point. Critically, we get access to a lot of TMs thanks to the Celadon Game Corner. We also get access to 3 new encounters in Rotom-Mow, Snorlax (which can Mega Evolve into a Grass-type later), and Seviian Dhelmise. On to the major trainers, there are five battles we have to face in this split against Giovanni (twice), Ariana and Archer, Chuck, and Sabrina. The first Giovanni battle is fairly challenging with half of his team matching up well into ours, though once the lead Nidoking and Honchkrow go down, Scovillain can come in to sweep the rest of Giovanni’s team. When we get to Silph Co., we have to battle Blue, Ariana and Archer, and Giovanni. Blue is pretty easy with the help of Hisuian Electrode, Breloom, and Jumpluff. For Ariana and Archer, Meowscarada acts as the lead, pivoting out with U-Turn to deal solid damage to the lead Gothitelle. From there, our Sceptile takes on Archer’s side. Once Archer’s side is down, we send in Scovillain who can sweep Ariana’s side with Sunny Day and Flamethrower to win the battle. For the second battle against Giovanni, Ludicolo can spam Scalds and Giga Drain to take out Hippowdon and Gargancl. Breloom takes out Mega Kangkashan (for the second time), Bellossom takes out Garchomp, Sceptile takes on Excadrill with moves such as Bulldoze and Brick Break, and Abomasnow cleans up what’s left to win the battle. Chuck wasn’t too bad since we have excellent checks to his team. Ferrothorn can tank Triple Kicks from Hitmontop while dealing chip damage thanks to Iron Barbs. Once Ferrothorn goes down, Meowscarada can one-shot Lucario with Brick Break before pivoting out to Torterra which 1v1’s Sneasler. Once Breloom comes in, we switch into Meganium who can sweep the rest of Chuck’s team thanks to Triage giving priority to Draining Kiss and Giga Drain. As for Sabrina, we’re able to come up with a very good strategy for this battle. Decidueye and Meowscarada, acting as our leads, take out Hatterene and Indeedee respectively. Critically, Meowscarada takes out Indeedee with U-Turn so we can send in Rillaboom to replace the Psychic Terrain with Grassy Terrain. After that, Decidueye takes out Gardevoir while Rillaboom goes for Drain Punch on Brute Bonnet. Drain Punch does not take out Brute Bonnet so it is up to Meowscarada to take it out with U-Turn. From there, we send in Breloom who, alongside Rillaboom, can take out the rest of Sabrina’s team to win us the battle on the first try.
