This playlist contains all the interviews filmed in 2010 / 2011 by Mike Walker Camera for The O'Brien Media Group for a program called "A Little Bit of Ireland". This TV show was broadcast on the Sky Showcase channel and also on Freesat. This episode features country duo Ally Harron and Marian Curry Ally Harron grew up in Derrylin, Co.Fermanagh and found a passion for country music in his very early teens, which has been his way of life since then. To this present day, he still has a devoted and precious feel to this brand of music. In those early days, Ally was influenced by country legends such as Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Buck Owens, George Jones, and Merle Haggard. Discovering his great vocal ability, he learned to play lead guitar, so it comes easy now to Ally to give you a good country song with a taste of his unique yodeling which goes down a treat with a dedicated follower of country music. An opportunity arose when Ally was asked to join forces with Tommy Fee and the Cajun Sound as lead guitarist and vocalist. Touring with the Cajun Sound which gave him a wealth of experience playing with band members and the feel of live performances. After this period, he went on to play with the Driftwood Showband fronted by ex-Mighty Avons keyboard player Ronnie Griffiths. With those bands, Ally got a taste of the recording studios, and one of his most requested songs has stood the test of time (The Geisha Girl) can be found on early albums, along with many more of the country songs of that time. Of recent years Ally has four albums to date, two of those are solo albums and two sharing vocals with his stage partner Marian Curry. Marian Curry was lucky to be born into a family of traditional music with her dad being one of the founder members of the local Starlight Ceili band. The earliest memories are of sessions in the family home with some of the members of the band, and the great radio program of the time “Ceili House” was never missed on a Saturday night. Local variety concerts gave Marian her first taste of stage with singing and acting in various plays and staging these events in various local parochial halls. However, she was introduced to rock and roll in her early teens and went on to share lead vocals with a band known as Paddy Boy, April South and The Silver Pennies. Extensive touring both in Ireland and the UK gave Marian a wealth of experience in the world of showbusiness and this is evident in her delivery and performance on stage and in recording. Success with the release of the Dobie Gray song “Drift Away” back in the 1980s brought her away from the hard rocks days and introduced her to a more mature choice of material, which eventually lead to singing and performing Country and Irish while living in the UK and sometime in Tenerifie. Marian now enjoys well-deserved recognition with fellow artist Ally Harron.
