Zu Audio's new METHOD bookshelf speaker, just released on 2/8/2025. This is PART #1 of my chat with the founder and CEO of Zu Audio, Sean Casey all about these new Method stand mount speakers. SPOILER ALERT: I was VERY impressed with them over the first 2 days I was able to start listening to them before this interview with Sean. I was able to begin comp listening to the Methods vs the Buchardt P300, the KEF LS50 META and the ZU DW6 base model and drove them with my XTZ Edge 150w@8 ohm class D amp and also my Class A SMSL VMV A1 10w@8ohm amp . Apologies for some of the audio roughness when I hit the mic I was wearing a couple times...MEA CULPA... my bad! We discuss: how Zu is primarily a "build to order" company, which allows them to offer not just broad choices for wood, colors and finishes but even custom finish options. specifically how AMAZING these burnt orange metal flake satin finish speakers look! how Zu speakers are all high efficient + big dynamic range speakers (the Method are 94Db efficient) so they are very much at home playing at higher SPL levels (which is where Sean tends to listen) and this also makes them handle big dynamic swings easily. how the co-ax design of these Method speakers make them very coherent and gives them a very wide sweet spot beyond the primary listening position also how the co-ax speaker arrangement makes speaker setup very easy to get the center image and soundstage that you want. Still to come in Part 2: bass extension and bass capabilities from these Method stand mounts how surprised I was at the bass reach that I heard from the Methods over my 2 days of listening Sean explains the acoustic crossover at 5000hZ on the 8" main driver and the triple-pole electrical high-pass filter on the tweeter Sean discusses how he went looking at aerospace and computer and EV and the switching market for the components he ended up using for the tri-pole electrical high-pass filter for the tweeter and how this has resulted in the Method speakers NOT having a Superfly or a Supreme version Sean discusses the co-ax interplay between the main driver and the tweeter and how critical that is and how he got that to work the way he wanted it to work while avoiding "over engineering" that solution.
