But this scope creep can completely halt game development for indie developers, as its easy to get bogged down in small details. Therefore I had to fully write a broad set of features that I wanted my dream game to have (basically defining an MVP or minimum viable product). Here is what I brainstormed: semi-random map, day night cycle, affinity system, character creation quiz, questing system, combat system, behavior scripts, invasion system, and then player levelling and abilities. By implementing these features, I'm confident in the foundations of the game being in a good place for a demo, and allowing for a lot of expansion. Overengineering can also plague indie games and indie game development (or software engineering as a whole), and is a large topic in this video. Now some game systems do require more complex architecture, but trying to make complex systems more concise is definitely a worthy goal!
