Welcome to the MTA 190th street station exploration! In this video we explore and walk through one of the most interesting and unique stations on the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The NYC subway operated by the MTA has over 400 stations and 20 lines. Some unique stations the NYC subway sees operations from range from 34th Street Hudson yards on the 7 train, 191st street on the 1, and on the subject of this video, 190th street on the A. 190th street was opened in 1932 as part of the IND 8th Avenue line and is served by the MTA, A train at all times. The station layout is truly a unique design that stands out from most NYC subway stations. This station has two entrances. One on Fort Washington Street and one on Bennett Ave. The aspect that makes these entrances unique from each other is topography of Manhattan. Upper Manhattan consists of very steep and hilly terrain, this station was built in said terrain. That's why the Fort Washington Street entrance despite looking like a normal NYC subway station entrance, is so high in elevation compared to the Bennett Ave entrance that entry to this station is only accessible via elevator from Fort Washington Ave. On Bennett Street this station is accessible via a lengthy passage way bored into a side of a mountain. Because of the Unique topography this station is 140 feet below ground and is one of the MTA's deepest stations! This station is truly a unique standout compared to most NYC subway stations, enjoy what you see? Subscribe to MBTA1234 for more MBTA, Boston and Transit content!
