This young seal didn’t run. He couldn’t. When the Ocean Conservation Namibia team approached, it became immediately clear just how bad his entanglement was. His entire upper body was twisted in a thick illegal gill net, complete with floats and trailing lines. The weight, the friction, and the restriction - it’s a miracle he made it this far. This type of net is officially banned in Namibia for a reason: it’s indiscriminate and devastating. Yet here it is again, another seal caught in something that is supposed to be outlawed. If it had been any worse, he wouldn’t have been able to haul himself out of the sea. He would have died offshore, alone, trapped, and unseen. The question is: why is this still happening? Where is the enforcement? Why is gear that’s so clearly illegal still ending up in the water? The fishing industry itself admits the damage gill nets cause, but without action, admitting doesn’t change anything. 🦭 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Please visit our website to find out more about our work and how to support us: ➡ Website: https://www.ocnamibia.org/ ➡ Donate via Paypal: https://ow.ly/BTm550PIavq ➡ Donate via Stripe: https://ow.ly/Xy1F50PIMzQ ➡ Support via Patreon: / ocn ➡ FAQs: https://www.ocnamibia.org/faqs Follow us on social media: ➡ Instagram: / oceanconservationnamibia ➡ Facebook: / ocnamibia ➡ TikTok: / oc_namibia ➡ LinkedIn: / ocnamibia ➡ Twitter: / ocnamibia 😊 Thank you for every like, share, comment and subscribe 😊 Ocean Conservation International is registered as a non-profit organisation under chapter 501(c)3.
