More seals. More entanglement. Another reminder of how carelessly we treat the ocean. One young seal was caught in a mass of discarded snoek fishing line, thrown overboard like trash. The tangled bundle was wrapped around his neck and body, and the seal, like so many others, had no chance of removing it. If we hadn’t found him in time, he would have suffered a slow, invisible death. We can imagine the moment the fisherman tossed this line into the sea. It’s faster that way. No one checks how much line is missing. No one asks questions. It’s “normal” because the fish are biting and profit comes first. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If enough people speak up, we can demand accountability. We can push for better systems.
