Comber to Newtownards (August 2023) An Alternative Section for this part of the Columban Way

There is an official route from Comber to Newtownards as part of the relatively new Columban Way. However,I think the intention was for a nicer route along a planned Greenway that would mostly be along the shore of Strangford Lough, but due to disgruntled landowners, this plan seems to have been shelved and means the carriageway is the official route, which sucks. I haven't found my favourite way to do this, and am still exploring other options. I am still working out if there is a way to go completely along the coast from Island Hill to the Floodgates at Newtownards, as I am not sure if this would involve trespassing and the dangers of sinking into the soft sands of the Lough. This route along Darragh Road, only has a short section through some housing, but quickly becomes country road will rural views. There are no footpaths, and this is likely why the Council would not support a route using these roads. There is the option of using Moate Road, but there is also a really beautiful trail, but it would require some walk along the carriageway. I intend to find a sweet route from Comber to Bangor, so currently these are just explorations. ALSO Be aware that public transport especially on Sundays in provincial towns around Ireland may not be great, and we fell foul of this, on this particular Sunday. We ended up getting a taxi to Dundonald, where we could get a bus back into the city.
